Antioch goes Solar!
The Antioch Board of Governors approved construction of a 146kW ground solar array at Glover's Ledge! Power generated by the array will offset 193,720 pounds of CO2 emissions annually. That is the equivalent of planting 2,100 new trees, removing 28 passenger cars from roadways, and preventing 281,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from being burned!
Array construction began in October and ran through November. By the end of December, the array was fully hooked up to the electrical grid and producing clean, solar electricity! Please look, but maintain a safe distance from the solar array.
our partnership with revision energy
We are working with Brentwood, NH-based ReVision Energy to install the grid-tied 146kW ground-mounted array, which will provide clean solar energy for our on-site facility. In addition to furthering our commitment to sustainability, this solar project will heighten our environmental studies programs, bringing a hands-on element to our climate focused courses.
Comprised of 360 solar panels, the ground array will generate over 146,000 kilowatt-hours of energy, offsetting 281,000 pounds of carbon pollution every year. This is equivalent to planting over 2,100 trees or removing 28 gas-powered cars from the road. When the sun is shining, the array will produce electricity that is either used in real-time by our on-site facility, or sold back to the grid where it will benefit our community (and earns us a credit).
On top of generating clean, solar energy, the array will be incorporated in our graduate education programs. Instructors will be able to use the solar site to teach students about solutions to the climate crisis, and utilize raw solar data from the array for real-time modeling and projections.
This solar project brings unique financial and educational advantages to Glover’s Ledge, which can be experienced and enjoyed by all. Since its founding in 1964, Antioch University has developed educational programs with a focus on growing the public good. We are excited about the opportunity to enhance the learning potential of this property through this partnership with ReVision Energy. An employee-owned B-Corp, ReVision shares our dedication to environmental and social justice, and is on a mission to educate and empower our communities to build a better world with renewable solar energy.
